Featured Star of the Week: Shelley Lau
Patient Information Associate 58 years old
Shelley, affectionately known as Lao-shi (which means teacher in Chinese), have been working in TTSH for 6 years. She is often called as Lao-shi as she had experience teaching in preschool for 7 years before. Shelley also have experience working in clinic for 4 years, and gaining medicine-related knowledge from the doctor whom she worked with in the clinic. She enjoys spending quality time with his 2 wonderful sons and loves cooking and travelling. Her role model is our Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew, who she admired his goals and visions with Singapore very much.
As she wants to be able to spend more time with her family, she decided to work as a PIA as the working hours were favourable to her and what kept her going on working in this department is her fellow PIAs whom they have grown to be like one big family. They help each other and come together to face any problems they encounter. She enjoys facing new challenges at work which enables her to have more exposure and experience, and also loves interacting with people. One weakness she have is not being very IT-savvy, and requires more patience than usual to learn slowly.
She hopes that some adjustments could be made to the design or layout of the counter, where they would be able to rest their legs for a short while after long periods of standing. Shelley shared that she would stop working when she has her grandchildren and she would stay home to help take care of them, and to bond with them.
