A Culinary Showdown

During the last week of June, before our Muslim colleagues break for their Ramadan period, the warriors spilt into 6 groups and compete to provide snacks of their chosen cuisines. The groups competed on 2 separate rounds where they presented the food of their designated cuisines to the 3 judges – Xun Wu, JC, and Woei Ling.

The judging criteria were based on the presentation, the taste and the closeness to the theme. The judges also challenged the teams by giving special criteria to them where they will earn more points should they be able to fulfil the judges’ criteria. The special requirements were:

Sweet, sticky, yummy
Surprisingly healthy
Colourful

Round One

We were overwhelmed with the Peranankan team when they presented a wide spread of food and used banana leaves as plates, showing a sense of environmental friendliness. The otah-cucumber combination was quite a popular favourite among the judges. It was surprisingly crunchy and the combination felt light taste, giving a healthier feel~

The Thai team was creative in their presentation, where they greeted the judges in bits and pieces of Thai. They also dressed up to serve the judges their versions of the Mango Sticky Rice and Green Papaya Salad.

The Japanese team made sushi and added strawberries along to make it a more balanced meal. The sushi were made with love and they were of many colours.

Round Two
It was a battle among American, European and Local delights!

The American team surprised us with the nice plating of sandwiches, pastries and tarts. Their choice of the rose tea to complement their pastries was well received by all the 3 judges.

The European team delivered a light tasting chicken wrap with salad & sparkling juice. A very nice combination to our taste buds and in particular, the chicken which was fried yet it did not tasted very oily. Surprisingly healthy indeed!

The Local team brought in well known local favourites like the popiah & rojak. They also made cheng teng which had additional ingredients like honey dates and white fungus, said to be good for skin complexion and helps in strengthening immunity system.

After the 2 rounds, we are proud to announce our winners of each round……
And they are……
